Justin could tell he had offended Lucas as well as hurt his feelings. He was considering changing his mind when the vision of what he had seen crossed his mind once again. He knew he couldn’t let this go any further. He gasped involuntarily when he recalled his panic of being under the water in an unfamiliar place. If he stayed with Lucas, then he would end up there before much longer. He couldn’t take the risk. Better to end things now and alter his destiny before it couldn’t be avoided.

When he arrived home several hours later after a long, barefoot walk, then hitching a lift for the last part of the journey, he was cold, dirty and annoyed. Neither of his parents had shown up when he’d shouted for them to give him a lift home and he cursed Medina with every foul name he could think of for putting him in such a predicament. It wasn’t unusual for his parents not to come when he called. He knew they could only hear him when they were in the same realm and both of them spent a lot of time in the realm of the immortals. Still, he wasn’t happy about the situation.

He just hoped leaving Lucas behind was enough to divert his fate. Even so, he worried that putting this distance between them wouldn’t be enough.
